I don't know about harsh enough. He hasn't been back on the forum since midnight this morning. Of course, my brain immediately goes to, "what if he was completely crushed and did something irrational."

And you don't think your backstabbing might 'crush' actual humans? Your obsessive need to apologise is tiresome (and that's putting it VERY lightly).
If it never comes back that will be too soon. But it will, and it will carry on exactly as it has for the past 6+ years.

AAaaaand, just over an hour later it was back, exactly as before but even worse (if that's possible).
You should have waited cabbage. Now your embarrassing, self-serving apology is here forever

Well, what am I supposed to do, keeping digging until I find his jugular?

It doesn't have a 'jugular' you twit. Just take my effing comments at face value and stop putting your own take on them.

That does seem to be a common attribute of the insane: they take everything literally and don't have even a hint of a sense of humour. I'm stating that as a fact. The sense of humour thing is obviousy crucial to ascertaining a person's mental state.

I'm insane. You know that. I know that. If you expect anything sane from me, then I'm going to disappoint. 30 years of periodic paranoid psychoses have wrenched away whatever sense of humor I once had. I'm also well accustomed to being a laughing stock or embarrassment. So that's not going to phase me too much either.

'Insane' doesn't mean 'likeable'. You don't get a free pass. Everyone has their problems and sadness. Stop troweling for pity all the time. It's unbecoming.

Not troweling for pity. If you got something to dish out then take your best shot, champ.

You do it all the time. But being insane I suppose you aren't even aware of that. I don't care anyway. Phasing out lunatic asylums was one of the worst things modern societies ever did.

Yes. It was. Now a lot of people are homeless. Foucault was an idiot.
