DULUTH, Minn. -- A 50-year-old man died in an accidental shooting Sunday evening north of Duluth, authorities said.

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office reported that deputies were dispatched to a home on Arnold Road about 6 p.m. Sunday on a report of an accidental shooting. The man said he had dropped a gun, causing it to discharge. He was struck by a .22-caliber bullet in the lower abdomen.

The man was treated by first responders but died from the injury. Foul play is not suspected, authorities said.

The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of family.

This bloke should be nominated for the Darwin award, which is an annual award presented to the person who makes the greatest contribution to humanity by removing himself from the gene pool.

I'm not so sure. It takes real talent to kill with a .22. This guy managed to do it without even thinking.

It's the best caliber for a close up head-shot. It doesn't usually leave the skull, and bounces around until it's energy is expended, ensuring a kill. His gut was probably a perforated mess, though I wouldn't recommend repeating the experiment.
