God -- and Santa Claus

Santa exists as a legend and as an ideal. During the Christmas holiday, many people live in the spirit of Santa by sharing gifts and good cheer and kindness. Any other mode of existence is open to question.

God also exists as a legend and as an ideal. During their lives, many people live in the spirit of God by practicing the Golden Rule. Any other mode of existence is open to question.

Do I believe that God (Santa) exists? It depends on what you mean by "God" ("Santa"). With the above definitions, I assert that both characters exist.

Are you an atheist? Are you a theist? Are you an agnostic? First, define the term "God"! Otherwise, debating such questions is mainly a form of entertainment.

To illustrate, here is a dialogue between Jack and Jill just after they went up the hill:

Jill: Do you believe in God?
Jack: Depends on what you mean by "God".
Jill: OK, wise-guy! God is a great Intelligence who created everything, including human beings. God loves human beings above all the rest of His creation. God has tremendous power and tremendous knowledge.
Jack: If your God exists, then everyone will be saved -- that is, each person will end up in heavenly bliss with God, very likely along with their beloved pets. I hope such a Being exists, but I can't say that I believe it.
Jill: Then you will end up in hell forever.
Jack: But doesn't that statement contradict your definition of God? - God's love for each of us, his power, and so on?
Jill: Not according to my religious group!
Jack: Well, then, I think I would rather associate with people who treat themselves and each other with kindness and respect, in the spirit of your God, whether they believe that God exists in any other sense or not.
