It is only your understanding of the book of Revelation that should be of any concern to you.chaz wyman wrote:Did you ever get the feeling that no one give a flying fuck about your understanding of the Revelation?bobevenson wrote:I'm just here to answer your questions on the book of Revelation. I give it no more credibility than the last book of Lord of the Rings, except the LOTR is far better written and more entertaining.bobevenson wrote:It is only your understanding of the book of Revelation that should be of any concern to you.chaz wyman wrote:Did you ever get the feeling that no one give a flying fuck about your understanding of the Revelation?bobevenson wrote:I'm just here to answer your questions on the book of Revelation. It is one of the finest pieces of literature on earth. However, its problem is one of genre; it is a fantastical history masquerading as the truth , whereas LOTR you get more truth for the fact that it does not pretend to be a thing it is not. Also the Bible is far too preachy to be a good fantasy novel. In LOTR you get the truth about honour, love, friendship and loyalty; about good overcoming evil. In the Bible it seems that it is always God's evil acts that triumph over the innocent ignorant (god made them that way) peoples that the Jews crush along the way. They ever keep the girls for their own pleasure - that is not great advice to give a conquering nations. In the LOTR they always treat the enemy with respect.

But it is taken as truth, not a fantasy story which it is.bobevenson wrote:The book of Revelation is allegorical, you fool, no, you damn fool!chaz wyman wrote:The King James is one of the finest pieces of literature on earth. Allegories are presented to help dim-witted people like you see the truth, just as the game of Ouzo is presented as an allegory to help dim-witted people like you understand Revelation 13:18.chaz wyman wrote:But it is taken as truth, not a fantasy story which it is.bobevenson wrote:The book of Revelation is allegorical, you fool, no, you damn fool!chaz wyman wrote:The King James is one of the finest pieces of literature on earth. No Allegories are designed by the cognisenti to show off how clever they are in concealing their message so they can bamboozle others.bobevenson wrote: Allegories are presented to help dim-witted people like you see the truth, just as the game of Ouzo is presented as an allegory to help dim-witted people like you understand Revelation 13:18.

It's all explained in "The Ouzo Prophecy" (see http://church-of-ouzo.com/pdf/ouzo-prophecy.pdf). Why not spend a few moments to learn something?chaz wyman wrote:No Allegories are designed by the cognisenti to show off how clever they are in concealing their message so they can bamboozle others.bobevenson wrote: Allegories are presented to help dim-witted people like you see the truth, just as the game of Ouzo is presented as an allegory to help dim-witted people like you understand Revelation 13:18.

Regarding music in 5/4 time, ever hear Paul Desmond's Take Five, a famous jazz tune from the 50s or 60s? This is such a clever work that some folks think the devil must have inspired it.
Back to the Book of Revelation, here are my questions. Is it true a guy named John wrote it? And can you tell us in everyday English, literally and without symbolism, exactly what it says is going to happen?
As a side note, for the sake of those who are fearful about the end of the earth as we know it, here are a couple of definitions meant to lighten your mood:
Eschatology: Concerning what comes at the end of times.
Scatology: Concerning what comes out of the end at times.

Re: Doesn't Anybody Want to Ask Me About the Book of Revelat
Paul Desmond's alto sax with the Dave Brubeck Quartet was great, but what is really burned into my mind is a performance by John Coltrane on tenor sax. It was a wintery Sunday night a number of years ago at the Plugged Nickel, a bar on Wells Street in Chicago's Old Town district on the Near North Side. I walked into the place between 9:30 and 10:00 and sat at the bar. No cover charge or high-priced drinks. There were very few people in the place, just a number of small empty tables. Coltrane's quartet had just finished up a set. At 10:00 after a break, they started their next set. On the first song, Coltrane blew his horn for 90 straight minutes. He then stepped off the bandstand and walked over to a table, where he sat alone with a drink he didn't touch. He sat there in a stupor, drenched in sweat as the piano player, base fiddle and drums each took a 10 minute solo. At midnight, Coltrane got back on the bandstand and started blowing again. It was two hours since the song started, but I had to get to work the next morning, so as unbelievable as it sounds, I simply left. As far as John writing the book of Revelation, it really doesn't matter what his name was, only what he wrote. He didn't talk about what was going to happen, but what must always happen when our thinking is governed by our institutions rather than what God hath put in our hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give our kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled.Mike Strand wrote:Regarding music in 5/4 time, ever hear Paul Desmond's Take Five, a famous jazz tune from the 50s or 60s?
