My Philosophy of Life
Over the past few years, I have formulated my philosophy of life, a 14-page document that may be found at: http://philosofer123.wordpress.com In the first half of the document, I present and defend a number of philosophical positions, starting with atheism and culminating with negative hedonism. I c...

Re: My Philosophy
. Extremely nice document Philo. It is soooo refreshing to observe your openness and authentic philosophic personality. Your bravery and willingness to own your philosophy is like hens teeth here. Which is actually so bizarre. After having written down your observations of yourself did you find tha...

Re: Critique My Philosophy of Life?
The fact that you have read the section headings does not establish that you have read the document.HexHammer wrote:LMAO? Then how would I know you had these 2 sections? Are you trying to be funny?
It is now clear that you are trolling. This concludes our discussion.

Re: Critique My Philosophy of Life?
Your anitreligious section does not contain concept of suggestion, naivity, group think, etc, therefore it's sub par. Free will section is pure nonsense, you make it into a weird equation, and totally devoid basic psychology, such as suggestion, delusion, ignorence, group think, etc. What you have ...

Re: Critique My Philosophy of Life?
You need to rewrite most of your stuff and read up on psychology, ingelligences, etc. It's obvious that you havn't really read up on modern science of how human precieve things. I'll quote myself again, this is glaringly devoid of basic modern concepts. Please be specific. Please provide quotes fro...

Re: Critique My Philosophy of Life?
Please note that I have revised the "Negative hedonism" section of the document.
I have also added a new section entitled "Beyond peace of mind".
I look forward to any feedback you may have.

Re: Critique My Philosophy of Life?
Both my positions and the arguments supporting those positions are quite clear. Aye, the sentences are, the ideas not so much, as in, I can't wrap my head about the specific purpose of many of them. But that's just the philosophy of life style of writing. If there are any ideas in the document on w...

Re: Critique My Philosophy of Life?
Well I give up x) Your statements are mostly too vague to be likely subjects to criticism, or too personal. But that's quite typical of philosophy of life, it can be a way of getting the most obvious things down on paper to avoid logical inconsistency in one's thinking, or just a way of expressing ...

Re: Critique My Philosophy of Life?
When I say that "death is usually harmful for the one who dies", I mean that one would usually prefer to live longer than one actually does. Using this sense of the term "harmful", I can coherently (and, in my view, correctly) say that "death is not always harmful for the o...

Re: Critique My Philosophy of Life?
What I would say instead is, that to talk about harm and no harm is null and void, because you can't measure death! Of course you can measure social, economical, political and so forth consequences. But you can't measure the value of death itself! It is meaningless to give nothingness a value of it...

Re: Critique My Philosophy of Life?
I do not claim that death has value. I simply say that death may not be harmful in some types of extreme circumstances. Well to me death can't have a value in and of itself even in extreme circumstances. Which is why I'm strongly opposed to euthanasia in any form for any person. It would have to be...

Re: Critique My Philosophy of Life?
Most moral realists (many of whom are atheists) believe that there are mind-independent obligations. I would like to meet some of them and have them explain to me how that works ^^ I would start by asking them whether an obligation is an idea, and when I presumably get "yes" I would ask t...
