It's false morality because in IC's world, the source is all important ... the content is not.WHY the assumption that the moral code of a "false religion" would NECESSARILY be false. WHY would it NECESSARILY be different in some important way.

There is a right way and a wrong way to wash dishes. But that's not morality.

Re: Fabianism
Ask people if god communicates with them. It's not difficult to find that it doesn't happen.
There are claims in Islam, Hinduism, any religion.
God allegedly talks to lots of mystics and prophets. Is it true? Why the contradictory messages?

Re: Fabianism
The overwhelming majority has never heard god speak. Is "common experience" the only avenue? No. In the first place, there's conscience. But more importantly, it's not at all difficult to conceive that a God could reveal morality propositionally...by speaking.

Re: Fabianism
If god doesn't reveal morality through common experience then everybody is up the creek. The atheists will make up a wrong morality, the false religion will make up a false morality, the people who have never heard of the one true religion won't have the true morality and nobody will know which is t...

Re: Fabianism
The false religions would have a false morality grounded on a false god.Even if all religions were false, it wouldn't help Atheism ground a single moral principle. The problem's inherent to Atheism.
At least atheism isn't pretending to be based on a god.

You're going to start a thread about pragmatism and almost immediately stop participating in it?

Re: Fabianism
Sensible and realistic ethics are not amoral.
Ethics is developed through human experience and it's implemented to make life in society better.
Although falling short of perfection, there is striving for gradual improvement.

Re: Fabianism
Pragmatic : dealing with things sensibly and realistically in a way that is based on practical rather than theoretical considerations.
Yeah, you don't want to be sensible and realistic if you're a religious person.

Your landlord is 'difficult' ?I suppose I'll have to do that if it goes on, though I'd rather not.

Are you not renting?
A broken fence would be the landlord's problem. Both fixing it and talking to the neighbors about it.

Re: Environmental Ethics -- fair share for the non-human?
I don't know how YOU were taught evolution in school, what experiments you were exposed to. When I was teaching this I might have this as the lab lesson. In an opaque jar, place 50 white and 50 black beads to start. A student draws out a bead, his/her lab partner notes the color and rolls a die. If...

Confusion about random/chance. Natural selection is STILL a process governed by chance. When I said that you had to go into more detail about "chance", you switched to using the "chance/random" wording. When I said that selection is not random, you explicitly said that it is ran...
