Re: Global Capitalism
Remember that you only have two options ... capitalism or gulags, mass murder, the end of all freedoms. Choose wisely! "Capital" is just money. It's not an "-ism." Nobody worships it. It has no creed, ideology, manifesto or clubs. What you mean is free markets, I think. As for &...

Re: Gary's Corner
Depends on what you want to get out this expedition that you are on.But maybe my expectation for a God are too high. Perhaps I should settle for a hum drum ordinary conscious being (albeit one that is the scientist par excellence if it can create a universe).

Re: Gary's Corner
Christianity is the product of many thousands of people who put in the own 2 cents.
Some of them were kind, gentle, caring, loving. And some were nasty, violent, domineering, insensitive.
Their views were incorporated into the canon.
God is almost certainly not how he is described in the books.

Re: Gary's Corner
If God is anything like my father, an overbearing and impatient male, then I'm not all that interested in knowing him. And if God is the great warden in the sky or whatever who manages this dungeon, then I'm equally not interested in knowing him. When God shows me that he is divinely good and worth...

Re: Gary's Corner
Ah. You're not familiar with the infinite regress problem? It's quite interesting, actually. It's purely mathematical and deductive. You don't have to believe anything at all to see it's true -- except you have to believe in maths and logic, which I'm sure you'll say you do. But that's what makes i...

Re: Gary's Corner
Attributing the order of the universe to God just moves the question to how did an ordered God got here. It doesn't, actually. No Christians or Jews believe in a created God. They believe in the eternal God, the Supreme Being, and the First Cause of all things. So you can argue with them about the ...

Re: Gary's Corner
That's the present matter of discussion: does a real God exist? It's not something that I'm inclined to agree with you about, so you'll need to prove your case about that. No, the current discussion is how can you get order out of nothing or out of randomness. Attributing the order of the universe ...

Re: Gary's Corner
The fact that order exists in the universe means it arose 'somehow' ... either directly or first forming a god who then created the universe as we know it. Well, of course, the word "somehow" isn't actually an explanation of anything. It's an empty, undefined placeholder for "I don't...

Re: Gary's Corner
Show me an empirical example of high levels of irreducible complexity and sophisticated order, which are created by nothing but randomness. I'll wait. But I suspect that I'll wait a long time, because empirically, order comes form design, not from randomness. And design comes from intelligence, not...
