Wouldn't it be simpler to not force any religious group to marry off people of the same-sex and just let those persons get married freely by other means...That is legally, but lacking the religious ceremonial aspect. History tends to be forgotten and we make our own 'winners' in hindsight. The US (and the other countries who took their side) lost, the Vietnamese people lost. I honestly think that most who said "yes" are from the US.

"Need" is a strong word, I think that the world will adapt to the removal (whether by a catastrophic event/ not) any country, including the US.
