Re: To what extent can computers think?
How does this chip enable a computer to envision the possible? The same way that Google made a program understand the concept of a cat, the same way a computer can learn abstract concepts over time it will learn to see these concepts in conjunction. I see no evidence in your article or in your post...

Re: To what extent can computers think?
Persons are able to imagine and envision possibility. Turing Machines can analyze what exists. Persons are able to envision what could be and what should be . A Turing Machine will never be able to do this. Rubbish. SyNAPSE chip, introduced on August 7, 2014 http://www.research.ibm.com/cognitive-co...

Re: The Multiverse
It doesn't seem to me that multiverse is a coherent concept. Could you provide a definition?

Re: To what extent can computers think?
All computers are glorified Turing Machines. They are capable of receiving data, analyzing it according to a set of rules, and giving output according to this same set of rules. The question really is: is "thinking" - what we persons do with our minds - more than what a computer does? If s...

Re: Ask a Christian Theist
I am actually agnostic concerning the age of the earth and God's specific method of creation. Your belief is neither justified nor true

Re: What Would Evidence for God's Existence Be Like?
I was not raised in the church. It's something I chose for myself. The church certainly maintained control over which Jesus it authorized. This is only responsible. With a plethora of alternative takes on Jesus and the meaning of Jesus it only makes sense that the apostles and their predecessors wou...

Yes. I believe the orthodox, Christian Jesus is the actual Jesus.sjeff70 wrote:By Jesus you're not referring to the gnostic Jesus.
You're referring to the Christian Jesus...the churche's version of Jesus.

Re: What Would Evidence for God's Existence Be Like?
If MacBeth or anyone else in Shakespeare's world is to know of Shakespeare's existence, it will only be because Shakespeare has intentionally revealed himself. It would be impossible for MacBeth to discover Shakespeare or stumble upon him apart from the will and design of the author. Shakespeare wou...

Re: What Would Evidence for God's Existence Be Like?
What light does the MacBeth parable shed on the sorts of evidence we're looking for when we're looking for evidence of God's existence? What would evidence of God's existence even be like? I guess we could say that Shakespeare is the author of the play so he is the creator. As the author he tells t...

What Would Evidence for God's Existence Be Like?
MacBeth and King Duncan are discussing the politics of Scotland when an eccentric prophet-like figure barges into the room. "There is a Shakespeare!" he says. "What's a Shakespeare?" replies MacBeth. "What's a Shakespeare?! Shakespeare is the creator of our world. He's respo...

Re: Ask a Christian Theist
I am well familiar that the scientific community has claims about the age of the earth and evidence to support these claims. I'm not sure that this amounts to knowledge. These claims depend on all sorts of presuppositions that are unsupported. I'm generally skeptical of scientific claims that deal ...

yon a simple question.does heaven move?do you move to get there and once ya there does it heaven that is move.?not trying to be clever here just would like your ideas.considering jesus said that the kingdom of heaven is within you. You're asking about the kingdom of God, it seems. From a Biblical p...

Re: Ask a Christian Theist
There is no such thing as a scientific community that is in opposition to the religious community. Being a scientist is not incompatible with being religious, it is just that believing that the answers to all questions are to be found between the front and back cover of a single book is unscientifi...

Re: Ask a Christian Theist
Tell me what you think amounts to knowledge? Justified, true belief. The formulations of the scientific community are certainly beliefs, but whether they are justified or true is, I think, an open question. There have been plenty of scientific formulations and systems that we once "knew to be ...

Re: Ask a Christian Theist
More specifically, iff your God exists, why did your God create such a violent Universe? So violence is everything that's opposed to life? That which damages life? You asked for a definition of violence to which I have provided a laypersons, everyday understanding. You then vary that definition whi...
