Re: Group Dynamics, why do humans create small social groups

Thank's for your reply Gee, My question would be can certain humans be born asocial or independent? What I mean by this is can a human be introverted to the point of having a more personal orientation towards life as opposed to having a social group? I see that in America that society is more atomiz...

What topics count as non-philosophical?

Hello everyone, I am trying to demarcate what is philosophy and what isn't philosophy, however, I am having a hard time with this. For instance, does talking about a concrete life experience count as doing philosophy? Aren't all academic fields born out of philosophy, but have know establish their o...

Group Dynamics, why do humans create small social groups?

Hi everyone, I am trying to understand human nature and it seems to me that group dynamics plays a major role in how society operates. One thing that I have notice is that most successful friendships are asymmetrical in which there is a teacher and a student. For instance, let's say person X knows a...

Re: Do you feel you were born in a non-advanced age?

Guys, do you ever feel screwed that we won't have access to things like teleportation? I think that it is most likely the most possible technology coming up.

Do you feel you were born in a non-advanced age?

I was thinking about the 1910's and how backwards it looks. I think that in 2100, people will look at us and think that we really lived deprived of many technological advances that would have made our life better.

Re: What counts as doing philosophy thinking or reflecting?

Thank's NielsBohr and Gary for your responses I have a question for everyone, when I was creating this thread I was thinking on a epistemology class I took, although it was quite simply. I have a major problem with it, which is based on the words used in the class. You can check it in this link:http...

Re: What counts as doing philosophy thinking or reflecting?

@The Voice of Time 1) What I am suggesting by thinking was trying to model it around Carl Jung's(and other psychologists) theory of personality types in which a person can be said to be thinking when there is an aim to what they are doing, while what is called as "intuition" would be brain...

Re: What counts as doing philosophy thinking or reflecting?

Interesting questions in the OP, CtK. Are you saying/thinking that in order to be done "correctly", philosophizing must involve either "problem solving", "thinking" or "reflecting" but cannot involve all three or any combination of them? Or maybe I'm misunder...

Re: What counts as doing philosophy thinking or reflecting?

The Voice of time, here I spot a problem, you say that philosophizing, has to be in inside this areas of philosophy, however in my example of reflecting I was specifically talking about the area of comparative philosophy called "philosophy and race". Therefore, I do think it counts as phil...

Was I understandable enough ?
Well, I found it hard to understand what you meant by reflecting, if you could give a concrete example and expand on it would be great.

Re: What counts as doing philosophy thinking or reflecting?

None. Philosophizing is any manner of thinking which aims to make a point inside a discipline of philosophy: such as ontology, epistemology, logic, ethics, and so forth. You can figure out your own methodology to reach conclusions, but it has to strictly be within the disciplines, and to be taken s...

Re: What counts as doing philosophy thinking or reflecting?

Well this are just some thoughts I have, I might be completely wrong, but I just following what AJ Meyer said on having the right attitude, of asking trying to figure this out. Who is A J Meyer? Is he a philosopher? I meant AJ Ayer, a philosopher, that was a type error. By the way, thank's for the ...

What counts as doing philosophy thinking or reflecting?

Hello, I am interested in knowing what counts as doing philosophy? Which one of this three methods is the correct one: problem solving, reflecting, or thinking? 1) Problem solving: What I understand by problem solving is solving a word problem. For example, in my algebra class we were asked, "T...
